Wow, my first blog post! I don't even know where to begin. Early Childhood Education is actually my seventh major since coming to Jacksonville State. I tried the medical field, social work, and multiple business majors, but I never felt at peace with my decision. I decided to try out the field of education because of my love for children. I have always been fascinated with babies and young kids. I began to babysit when I was in the tenth grade and I immediately fell in love. When I thought about being able to not only "babysit", but help these children grow and learn, I thought it may be the perfect profession for me.
Growing up, I never had great teachers. I was bombarded with worksheet packets and my in class routine consisted of reading a chapter and answering the questions at the end. It always seemed like the teachers were watching the clock more than the students and did not enjoy working with our class. My school was also very biased. In elementary school, the smarter students were always picked to answer questions or get treasure box. They even got a special field trip for making all A's. In high school, athletes were always given special privileges. Whether it was a whole day excused from class for a 3 pm game, extended deadlines, or special athlete breakfasts sponsored by the school, the teachers would obviously favor the athletes. First and most importantly, when I become an educator I want to build relationships with my students. I want to treat each student equally while considering their individual needs. I also want to ensure that each student feels important. Every single child deserves a chance to be in the spot light. I hope to be an innovative teacher. I want to take my students' interests and teach them in a way that they will understand.
I know that I have a lot to learn. The thought of having my own classroom and my own students is terrifying right now. However, I am confident that JSU's Education Program along with my dedication will prepare me to be the best teacher that I can be. I am so eager to improve and I know that one day I can be the innovative teacher that I hope to be.
