The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear is a story about a young boy and his search for the wish tree, a magical tree in the forest. The boy meets lots of animals along the way and makes friends with them. When he cannot find the wish tree, the animals help him find his way to it.
While this is a fun book and it is super interesting, there aren't any specific lessons that I would teach based off of this book. However, the story takes place in the winter, so I would most likely use it in the winter. The fun story line would make it an easy writing prompt for students. They could even write about what they would wish for if they found a wish tree.
The illustrations in this book are very cool-toned with a good amount of detail. Students would struggle to keep up with the story based mostly on illustrations because the illustrations depict scenes from the story instead of tell the story.

I also used this book for one of my science fiction book blogs. It's a super cute and interesting story for younger students.
