Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett
Meerkat Mail Author: Emily Gravett Illustrator: Emily Gravett Publisher: Simon and Schuster Copyright: 2006 Number of Pages: 32 Genre: International Literature
Meerkat Mail is about a young meerkat who lives with his family in a very hot environment. He hates the hot weather, so he decides to try living with his relatives. At each location, he writes his family a letter about the new atmosphere and why he doesn't love it. At the end of the story, the homesick meerkat returns home to his loving family.
This story would be awesome to incorporate into a science lesson about exotic animals. Not only does it tell about the meerkat's environment, but it also describes a few other animal's as well. It would also be awesome for retelling or a great story to have students write about.
The illustrations in this story are very warm toned. The pictures appear to be drawn and colored as well. While the pictures would be easy to follow, the amount of text in this book would make it harder overall.
