This book is the classic story of Red Riding Hood. In this version, the wolf meets Red Riding Hood in the woods and escorts her to granny's house. When Red Riding Hood stops to pick flowers for her granny, the wolf rushes to granny's house first and gobbles her up. When Red Riding Hood arrives, the wolf gobbles her up, as well. Then, a hunter hears the commotion and kills the wolf. He cuts the wolf open and granny and Red Riding Hood pop out, alive and well.
This book is perfect to discuss "stranger danger" with kindergarten students. The whimsical story line is great to keep students' attention and they could then discuss ways that Red Riding Hood could have prevented the incident. You could also use this story for retelling, since students are pretty familiar with it. For gifted students, I would have them compare different versions of this story and tell the differences.
The illustrations in this book are bright and cartoon-like. They appear to be painted with a good amount of detail. This book would likely draw younger students' attention because of the colorful illustrations and animated characters.
